This Immersion English Day workshop with 5th graders was called 'The Tree in Me', a day to celebrate trees and acknowledge how vital these giants are for our own wellbeing and the wellbeing of the planet.

The leader Ms. Esmé McAvoy and the students discussed our intimate connection with trees in the oxygen we inhale with our every breath, the shade and fruits they generously provide and how important they are as a refuge for so many birds and animals.

Students made some land art mandalas in the school grounds as a creative way of connecting with the nature around them and we visited the school's giant Saman (Raintree) trees. We read 'The Giving Tree' story, reflecting on the messages it has for us today, wrote some poetry, learned about some of the oldest and biggest trees in the world and how so many precious, ancient trees are at risk from wildfires or deforestation.

We practiced some mindfulness practices and shared our gratitude for all the trees that have a long history in the Berchmans school grounds.
